Fenolftaleína. EXPERIMENTOS

Series of experiments with phenolphthalein. It is a pH indicator. It turns pink when the pH of the solution where it is present has a high pH, this it basic or alkaline. When PH is from 8.2 to 12 it turns pink. Below 8.2 it is colorless (very slight basic, neutral, and acidic). It also turns colorless when PH is over 12-12. There is also an exceptional case, in very acid pH, below 0, it turns orange.

We are going to experiment with acid, neutral, weak basic, moderately basic and strong basic mediums. Besides, we are going to experiment with PH below zero, with sulphuric acid, H2SO4.

At the end we will check the basicity of a traditional soap made of lye and animal fat with some drops of phenolphthalein poured on it.
