I bought MINI pineapple from a big supermarket.
The store employees told me that this is the "mini" variety they order from a local farmer. He breeds them outside the city in a greenhouse, in small quantities. What am I leading to, that this is not an import and perhaps it was not processed by anything! Since they are rarely brought in several dozen pieces and they disperse very quickly!
When choosing a pineapple at a retail outlet, consider the appearance!
The pineapple tuft must be alive and intact, especially the inside of the top. It should not be extinct or frostbitten, so it is better to buy pineapple during the warm season (May-July for our climate).
I planted pineapple in September, so it took root in a room mini-greenhouse. In it, you can regulate a special temperature, well, the humidity there is appropriate.
To root the top of the pineapple, a temperature is required: (not higher than 27 ° C, and also not lower than 20 ° C, and only in connection with the night temperature drop).
Air humidity also plays an important role in this process: (80-90% for the rooting of the pineapple top will be optimal). The hygrometer will help you determine the temperature and humidity of the air!
For this method of germination, we needed the following components:
- Tank with drainage holes.
- A layer (2 cm) of medium-sized expanded clay (washed from dirt and dust) as drainage. The drainage layer is very important, it collects the necessary oxygen for the root system, not to mention the absence of water accumulation at the bottom of the pot during watering.
- We cover expanded clay with a small layer of wet moss "Sfagnum", this layer will not allow the sand to quickly crumble through the drainage to the bottom of the pot when watering.
Moss "Sphagnum" should be crushed and moist, I also advise you to pour boiling water over it before the procedure.
- We lay down on top of the moss, slightly tamping (1 cm) a layer of river coarse-grained sand in a wet state. Sand is also treated with boiling water, having previously filtered it from various debris.
- We put a small layer of moss on the sand, it is he and the sand that will retain various trace elements during fertilization.
- We add the soil mixture almost to the top.
- Well, in the end, at the very edge of the container, we lay a thick layer of moss.
Then we make a small indentation in the center in the last layer of moss. And we insert there processed by all means as in this video, our pineapple top.
It is desirable that the root head is covered with a layer of moss and does not come into contact with the soil cover.
Finally, we spray abundantly the planted pineapple tuft from a spray bottle with a warm, weak solution of potassium permanganate (potassium permanganate), it should be light pink in color.
Well moisten the surface of the container with plain water without additives, from the same spray bottle. Watering is not needed so that all the necessary and useful components do not quickly crawl out of the soil to the surface.
Do not rinse off the top after the solution for some time with plain water.
Why use a solution of potassium permanganate (potassium permanganate)? In order to kill various parasites and fungus on the leaves, as well as to prevent mold from forming on the root head at the time of stay in constantly wet moss.
