The REAL Secret Horse Soldiers from the Movie "12 Strong"
The so-called Horse Soldiers were Special Forces of the US Army who rode through Afghanistan on horseback like modern cowboys to hunt down terrorists.
In 2001, America decided to fight the Taliban, who had taken control of a large part of Afghanistan. As a result, a small group of 12 Special Forces was moved into the country in the middle of the night and met with the Northern Alliance. This alliance of different tribes had been resisting the Taliban for a long time, and with combined forces they were now supposed to free Afghanistan.
To make any headway in the mountainous landscape, the US soldiers resorted to a more traditional means of transportation used by their allies: horses. Despite little preparation time and with few resources, they built up a powerful army in the months that followed and joined the Afghans in defeating the numerically superior Taliban.
Unfortunately, we all know the disaster in which the Afghanistan mission ended. But the iconic image of the modern elite warrior riding into battle on an Afghan horse has gone down in history forever.
