Indigenous Views and Connection to Mother Earth

Our relationship with mother nature is a key element to indigenous spirituality. In this video, Nana Calixta (Kaqchikel Mayan spiritual leader) explains the symbiotic relationship between indigenous people and Mother Earth. For the Mayans, everything in existence is alive and has a spirit. The Earth, the mountains, the animals, the four elements, all deserve our respect. They are often referred to as the energies of creation because they enable our existence. In the words of one of our wise spiritual leaders "Water can live without us, but we cannot live without water!". And through this understanding indigenous people of the Mayan nations have managed to have a harmonious relationship with the Earth and its creatures. The time has come to learn about this and reconnect with a way of living that makes sense.
