Location: 93/13 B, Phase-3, Bahria Town, Rawalpindi.
Design approach:
The site is located in Bahria Town, Rawalpindi on 2014 Sq. Yds of the land. The brief given by the owner was a 5 Bedroom house with a family lounge, study, drawing, dining, prayer room and a swimming pool. The owner wanted a courtyard house with covered spaces, terraces and outdoor/indoor connectivity.
The topography of the site is respected and this creates subtly different relationships between indoor and outdoor spaces. The courtyard residence resembles a rectangular origami of concrete and glass. The façade is thoughtfully placed in layered volumes highlighting sense of intrigue and wonder. The project aims to design calm expression, heightened experience and seamless function. The design was guided by a "Contemporary and Contextual" theme, blending contemporary aesthetics with the local context, and the overarching philosophy emphasized minimalism and a deep connection with nature. The design maximizes the depth of field, culminating in carefully curated openings that frame captivating views, including a well-manicured lawn. This approach creates a sense of openness and tranquility.
Despite its heroic elements, the house transcends its gallery-like scale and functions as a series of beautifully proportioned living spaces. The ground floor is organized around the central courtyard, acting as a Pivotal of the house, surrounded by drawing, study, dining, family lounge, vertical circulation and kitchen, interpreting the family togetherness and a lively shared space. Family lounge and master bedroom sharing a covered deck harmonizing with the landscape and swimming pool. The first floor is lighter with only bedrooms and terraces with sitting corners. Each room is meticulously designed to ensure ample ventilation and access to natural light.
