I'm homeschooling my fifth child
I'm homeschooling my fifth child now, who is in kindergarten. Every child learns at their own pace, so some children might learn all of this "list" and more in their first homeschool year, while some will still be learning these things into grade 1. But today I wanted to provide an overview of what I teach my kindergarteners at age 5.
As far as reading goes, focus on reading to your child lots. They will catch on, whether that happens at age 4, or not until 7-8. I treat learning to read a lot like potty training...we'll do a few lessons, and if my child really isn't grasping it, we will put it aside for a couple of months before trying again. Childhood and education isn't a race, so I hope this video is encouraging to you in that! Don't compare your child to others. Meet them where they are, and be constantly teaching, showing, and answering questions, and they will learn. :)
