I highlight the Most Common Signs Of A Codependent Relationship.  

We continue this Series with #3: LOSING SELF.

In a codependent relationship the "Giver" loses focus of who they truly are meaning they move their boundaries and they stifle their voice and they do so much for the other person that they eventually lose touch with who they really are.  

Think of it like this:  excessive focus on someone else takes that important focus away from you.  The most common way this happens is moving your boundaries... to make the other person happy, saying things that you normally wouldn't say, changing your daily routine and what you need to do and multitasking to make sure that you get their obligations completed before yours.  This is why codependent "Givers" can become resentful and stressed.

A codependent relationship looks like this:  The "Giver" is usually an low self-esteem overachiever and feels rewarded when they help someone.  They look for someone that they perceive to need help.  Enter the "Taker" of the codependent relationship.  This person is usually an underachiever... could be an alcoholic or an addict, could be someone that is disabled and manipulative.  Whatever the type, they are perceived by the codependent "Giver" as needing help.  

Codependent behaviors  from the "Giver" to the "Taker" can look like making sure they get to work on time, paying their bills, compensating for them if they made a mistake and so on.  

Regardless of the behavior, the codependent "Giver" at the end of the day will be stressed and will be hurrying to get their obligations done as the "Taker" will be rested and thinking about what their next need is.
