The two most common types of insulation for retrofitting the walls of existing homes are dense pack cellulose and water based injection foam. Having installed injection foam for two different companies when I was getting started in 2008 and seeing its deficiencies first hand, Insulwise opted to go with dense pack cellulose. The main reasons are that it NEVER shrinks or settles, perfectly fills the stud cavities, does an excellent job of air sealing, is virtually flame and mold proof, is a non-toxic sustainable material, and is typically far less expensive. This video gives good insights to these two materials, and shows how injection foam can look once it has been installed. Not good!
