Reedy Creek Reserve is a private conservation reserve in Queensland owned by Bush Heritage Australia. It protects habitat of the Giant burrowing cockroach, which is the world's heaviest species of cockroach. Weighing 35 grams and measuring up to 8cm, they can live up to 10 years, playing a vital role in the ecosystem by consuming dead leaves and vegetative matter on the ground. They make permanent deep burrows where females raise their clutches of up to 30 young (nymphs).

Foraging on the surface at night, mothers return with food for the young who remain in the nest for up to nine months.  Reaching full maturity in 3 to 4 years the Giant burrowing cockroach is an important nutrient recycler and a favourite food of goannas, who go to great lengths to excavate nests.
