Howard Carpendale was born in Durban, South Africa, on 14 January 1946. During his schooldays he played cricket with Barry Richards, but it was as a singer that he made a name for himself in Durban pop circles, together with his group The Kinsmen (also featuring Barry Cline, Glen Turrell and Mike Slavin). In 1966 he moved to Britian, initially with the intention of becoming a cricket player, but EMI offered him a singing contract and he subsequently recorded a number of singles. During a visit to Cologne, Germany, EMI Electrola was very impressed with his performance, and signed him on. In 1969 he had his first big hit with a German language cover of The Beatles’ “Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da”. He subsequently became immensely popular in Germany and sings mainly in the German language. During his long career he has recorded 37 albums, has appeared in at least 5 films and has won numerous awards. This song is off the album “Hello Again” released in 1984.
