Hello everyone and welcome to the new episode of the HVAC Education Hub Channel. In this episode, we'll cover what is COP, what is the efficiency of heat pumps and what are the main variables to calculate it.

COP means coefficient of performance in a heat pump or refrigerant system. It is a ratio of heating provided (heating delivered to our system) by work or energy required (electricity used to produce this heating). This electricity is mainly from the compressor, as the compressor is the heart of the refrigerant system. There are also some other parts like pumps, fan motors, and sensors, but this is very low consumption, so we will focus only on the compressor side.
