Moving over to Pakistan, where a government decision to charge Afghan refugees leaving Pakistan for Western countries under resettlement schemes has been slammed.
UN officials and Western diplomats called the 830 U.S. dollar fee "shocking and frustrating."
The move comes after Pakistan announced a major deportation scheme for undocumented foreigners, including refugees, with November 1st set as the deadline for about 1.7 million unregistered Afghan migrants to leave the country.
The U.S. government has announced plans to resettle around 25,000 Afghans, while the UK will provide refuge for up to 20,000 in the coming years.
Many of the Afghani refugees fled to Pakistan following the Taliban take-over in 2021.
