In 1990 many people thought that the days of the Le Mans race were numbered. The FIA had set its position regarding Le Mans many months before: endurance races had to have a maximum distance of 480 km and tracks could not have straights longer than 2 km. The Automobile Club de L'Quest initially did not want to give up to the FIA's requests, but faced with Balestre's threats to penalize the teams and drivers participating in the race, they had to come to an agreement.

The most important change were the two chicanes on the Mulsanne straight to lower the top speed of the cars, that at the end of the old straight reached just over 400 km/h in previous years. However, the race would not count towards world endurance championship points, so Mercedes decided not to participate. It was the only casualty, since as always happens at Le Mans, all the teams and brands that had anything to do with endurance racing wanted to compete with at least one car.

The Porsche 962 was the swiss army knife of privateer endurance teams. And that was the car we chose for this race, as Nissan fielded five cars, plus two more from privateer teams. Jaguar, Toyota and Mazda were the other big brands that would compete in addition to Porsche. ACO also allowed the minor classes like C2 and american IMSA GTP.

In our race after a good start, the race pace was good until night fell. Slipstream is very important on a track with long straights like this one, so we did try to take every chance to gain speed with the AI cars. Unfortunately, we made too many mistakes in the night to make any further progress to catch up with the leading group. So for much of the night we raced solo.

The second day arrived and the situation wasn´t too bad. With the AI pit stops, we advanced to 12th position with about 3 laps to go. On the last lap, the duel with two other 962s made me lose two places. Very unfortunate but 14th place is fine. We finished ahead of several Jaguar and multirotor Mazdas. Not bad after I started the race with 44 other cars and nobody retired.
