Back in March of 1949,
Back in March of 1949, during a formation exercise two Grumman F6F-5 Hellcats crashed into each other hurdling tons of debris and wreckage into the gulch below. Unfortunately, both pilots lost their life in the crash. My buddy Gio and I found many major remnants including a massive Pratt and Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine, majority of a tail section w/ stab and propeller hub. Glad we got to get out on such a beautiful hike and find 70+ year old wreckage from two Marine aircraft. Hope you enjoy this one!
