Sky News Washington Correspondent Annelise Nielsen says China’s release of journalist Cheng Lei is one of the “best case scenarios” for people detained in the communist nation.
Ms Lei arrived in Melbourne and was reunited with her family after being detained for more than three years in China.
“We didn’t know how it was going to end,” Ms Nielsen told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.
“I know I work for News Corp, they’re my bosses, but they backed me in with this.
“I was sticking my neck out and you backed me in as well, and we’re really grateful for that.”
