Many people ask me how is life onboard a gas carrier. They think that life would have been hectic physically however i just want to clear the notion that life on tankers is way much different than a dry ship. More than physical tiredness you become mentally tired because more than physical job, mental job is involved. For crew the job remains same like chipping, painting greasing etc, but if you see with an officer's perspective, a third officer's jobs increases as their are various additional fire fighting equipments to be maintained, for second officer additional noon reports may burden up, and for chief officer grade change, maintaining cargo temperature, pressure, lining up before cargo ops, various pms schedules for various deck items are involved like pressure testing of cargo pipelines, cargo heater/vaporiser, cargo compressors pms alarms, vents operation, inspection of mast riser and various ballasat tanks and enclosed spaces, void spaces,all these jobs increases other than normal routine operations on deck like chipping , painting and greasing.
