Can't see Polaris or Sigma Octans from where your telescope is set up? You can still align an eq mount - here's how! David Fuller with Eyes on the Sky shows how to set up a German equatorial mount if trees, a building or something else keeps you from seeing the northern or southern celestial pole star from where you want to set up. You can even align if it is cloudy or full daytime and you want to set up for solar observing or later night time observing. This is only for visual observing or very wide-angle astrophotography.
