Monsieur Periné - Mala Yerba (Live in Seville) Monsieur Periné es una de las bandas más polifacéticas en América Latina. Su fusión de jazz, folk, bossa nova, reggae, salsa y estilos afro-colombianos resaltan la calidad poética y coqueta de sus letras, que pueden ser en español inglés, portugués o hasta en francés. El charango, el violín y la voz son los instrumentos principales de los dos integrantes de la banda, Catalina García y Santiago Prieto, quienes llevan tocando juntos desde el 2007 en su natal Colombia. Su participación en la serie Tiny Desk de NPR en el 2016 le abrió las puertas hacia un público internacional y, su disco del mismo año ‘Caja de Música’ les ganó una nominación al GRAMMY en la categoría Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative, algo que también lograron en el 2019 con ‘Encanto Tropical’. La presencia visual de Catalina y Santiago para los pelos; sus vestuarios elaborados hacen referencias a la cultura tradicional colombiana, al vaudeville y al teatro, y sus presentaciones en vivo están llenas de drama y sentimiento. Durante su estadía en la ciudad de Sevilla en España, Monsieur Periné nos acompañó en el Palacio Las Dueñas para tocar en vivo “La Pea” y “Mala Yerba”de su álbum ganador al Latin GRAMMY ‘Bolero Apocalíptico’. Monsieur Periné is one of the most multifaceted pop bands in Latin America. Their unique fusion of jazz, folk, bossa nova, reggae, salsa and other Afro-Colombian styles highlight their poetic and flirtatious lyrics sung in four languages: Spanish, English, Portuguese, and French. The charango guitar, violins and striking vocals have been band members’ Catalina García and Santiago Prieto’s weapons of choice since the group’s founding in their native Colombia in 2007. Their stellar performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk series in 2016 opened the doors to a more international audience and, the same year, their ‘Caja de Musica’ album earned them a GRAMMY nomination in the Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative category. Their 2019 album ‘Encanto Tropical’ also earned them a nod that year. Catalina and Santiago’s visual presence induces goosebumps –their elaborate costumes a reference to traditional Colombian folklore, vaudeville and theater, and their live performances are full of drama and whimsy.
