Coming in at #2 on our list of ultralight aircraft that give you the biggest bang for your buck is the Quicksilver Sprint.
As far as production of ultralight aircraft Quicksilver has to rank as the number one manufacturer. It doesn't matter where you go in the world you more than likely will find a Quicksilver aircraft flying their.
There are a number or reasons for this. Quicksilver was the first to start mass production of their kits, on bubble packed boards. They were the first to have a very concise and easy to follow assembly manual.
They were the first to come out with a service manual for their aircraft. They were the first to produce a training syllabus for their aircraft. They were the first to develop a world wide distribution network!
The Quicksilver Sprint kit features bolt together aluminum tubing covered in Dacron sailcloth. It can be built in as little as 80 hours, with no prior experience and no special tools required.
When complete the aircraft features, true three axis controls, with the ailerons connected to the stick and the elevator to the rudder pedals. It features a left hand throttle and a right hand stick.
In the past power has been supplied by the Rotax 447 engine, with the latest model displayed at Sun N Fun sporting a twin cylinder 50 HP Hirth engine.
Performance with the 447 has to be seen to be believed. The Sprint will take off in as little as 50 feet, and climb out at 800 to 1,000 feet per minute.
Cruise comes in at between 40 and 50 mph, and is a little faster when equipped with a nose fairing. Stall comes in at less than 25 mph. with no surprises and plenty of warning.
The standard airframe can easily accommodate floats, amphib floats, or a mono float as well as snow ski's.
Parts and service can be obtained world wide, with parts also available from a number of other suppliers.
The Sprint is priced very economically priced, and holds it's resale value when not abused. Another advantage of the Sprint is that training is generally available because of the amount of two seat aircraft that Quicksilver has produced and the number of dealers they have worldwide.
