Blackened Shrimp

This blackened shrimp recipe is easy and delicious.
The shrimp can be used in a pasta, salad, or just as they are with a simple vegetable.

A cast iron skillet is best used to blacken shrimp or any other fish. Although you can use it on the cooktop, we chose for this video to use our outdoor grill, the heat from the skillet will smoke and fill your kitchen. You can use either method.

The blackened seasoning can be purchased, but if you have a well stocked spice rack, you can make from scratch, both are fine.
We used 2 lbs of shrimp for this recipe, if you are making more, double the recipe and save some seasoning for another time.

Recipe:
2 lbs- fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
2 tsp- garlic powder
1 tsp- onion powder
2 tsp-  smoked paprika
1 tsp-  black pepper
1/2 tsp- cayenne pepper
2 tsp-I Italian seasoning
1 tsp- creole seasoning
1 tsp- kosher salt

Method:
Peel and devein the shrimp, pat dry with paper towels.
Mix the blackened seasoning in a mixing bowl.
Coat each shrimp on all sides with the seasoning, refrigerate for 2 hours.
Heat a large cast iron skillet on a grill or cooktop. We dry cooked the shrimp, meaning we did not use oil in the pan.
Sear the shrimp on each side until black and crispy.
Remove from the heat and serve.
