The Waltons - Season 5 Episode 12 - THE BEST CHRISTMAS (1976) The cast sings... I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day...the singing starts at https://www.seevid.ir/fa/w/iDzrxxAkiYM...This is the last Christmas episode with the cast all together. Shortly after this Grandma (Ellen Corby) had her debilitating stroke and did not return until the last episode of Season 6 called 'Grandma Comes Home.' John Boy (Richard Thomas) then left the series at the end of Season 5 and returned near the end of Season 6 for a two part special called 'The Return.' Art imitates life as 'The Best Christmas' is about Momma wanting everyone together for Christmas because she feels it will be their last one all together and it truly was because right after Ellen came back Grandpa (Will Geer) passed away while on break from filming, and the nation mourned. In such despair they could not make a Grandpa dies episode, but instead began Season 7 six months after his death saying that he died up on the mountain and was buried where he loved to be. This episode was written by Emmy winner, the late John McGreevey. Full song by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow I heard the bells on Christmas Day Their old, familiar carols play, and mild and sweet the words repeat Of peace on earth, good-will to men! And thought how, as the day had come, The belfries of all Christendom Had rolled along the unbroken song Of peace on earth, good-will to men! Till ringing, singing on its way, The world revolved from night to day, A voice, a chime, a chant sublime Of peace on earth, good-will to men! Then from each black, accursed mouth The cannon thundered in the South, And with the sound the carols drowned Of peace on earth, good-will to men! It was as if an earthquake rent The hearth-stones of a continent, And made forlorn the households born Of peace on earth, good-will to men! And in despair I bowed my head; "There is no peace on earth," I said; "For hate is strong, and mocks the song Of peace on earth, good-will to men!" Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: "God is not dead, nor doth He sleep; The Wrong shall fail, the Right prevail, With peace on earth, good-will to men." Copyright Lorimar Productions
