More proof that Google doesn’t care about people on bikes

Directions apps discourage people from riding bikes. In North America, mobility is planned around driving directly from anywhere in the city to everywhere else. That leaves biking infrastructure which is often made up of disconnected, leftover scraps of the city. This patchwork of biking infrastructure means people on bikes are often given directions that have unsafe, high-stress segments. Low-stress biking routes tend to require extensive local knowledge. Big companies, like Google or Apple, don’t have this local knowledge in their data and don’t seem interested in creating better directions for people biking, or even walking.
In this video, I use an example to show a location where Google is giving me incorrect biking directions. A change was made to a residential street three years ago. Google’s data were updated for driving directions but that update created an error for biking directions that still hasn’t been fixed.
