See how to replace the timing belt on your Yamaha T60 outboard in this video from Boats.net.
This isn’t an every-100-hours thing, and it’s not even a once-a-season thing. But every three or four years, you need to check on it. If the belt gets brittle and starts losing teeth, the engine will keep turning but there’s nothing to drive the camshaft.
Bing! There goes a valve.
We’ll remove the cover, then show you how to remove the flywheel on your Yamaha 60. Then, we’ll get the stator and a couple of brackets off to actually remove and replace the timing belt on our Yamaha T60.
Then, we’ll get it all back together again.
