Union Pacific Action 1993-1994, UP Challenger 3985, UP Centennial 6936, UP E9, SD40-2, C36-7, C40-8!
Experience pure Union Pacific action before the mergers that changed the railroad. Before its combinations with Chicago & North Western and Southern Pacific, the UP funneled its coast-to-coast traffic along the Overland Route, the original transcontinental railroad. Enjoy UP SD40-2, SD60M and C40-8 locomotives pulling fast freights along this route. Other unique freight diesels include UP GP15-1 and C36-7 class engines. Trains also appeared on the Kansas Pacific line, Denver Pacific line and Colorado's Denver-Pueblo Joint Line. In 1993 and 1994, excursion trains pulled by UP 4-6-6-4 Challenger 3985 operated without "protection power," a diesel to operate with the steam engine. Union Pacific's restored Challenger steam locomotive, streamlined E9 diesels, and Centennial-class DDA40X made the UP an exciting place to watch trains.
