In this video, I’ll be breaking down The Devil Wears Prada, a film based on the book written by Lauren Weisberger who is a former assistant at Vogue to editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. I'll be breaking down the psychology of fashion within the characters and the high fashion-oriented workplace. Though the story is witty and dramatized, it does give the viewer’s a glimpse into the world of high fashion to some degree through the satire.
The film references how the industry actually shapes society from areas of identity development to social and cultural movements. I'll also be covering how the personal experiences, beliefs, and styles of those who create fashion content translate into their work that impacts us in the real world. Style is a reflection of a person's identity and by taking a look at the style of people in fashion, we can see their values, beliefs, and thoughts that translate into their work which an be found in their brands of choice.
Through this, we can see how they are giving a part of themselves in order to contribute to the fashion narrative that is shaping the world we live in through creating images, propelling movements forwards, introducing concepts, and giving life to fashion that will become someone’s personal style.
