Talking Heads are truly one of the most brilliant and creative bands in the history of music. They were one of those groups that you never knew what to except, from one album to the next. They are truly one of a kind. David Byrne on lead vocals and guitar, Tina Weymouth on bass Chris Frantz on drums and Jerry Harrison on guitar and keyboards. This band helped to pioneer new wave music by integrating aspects of Art rock Punk Funk, funk, and World music with avant guard sensibilities To me Crown Jewel of all of the jewels they created is the ultra compelling classic Once in a Lifetime from their fourth studio album Remain in Light. The song was released in early 1981 through Sire Records. I was extremely fortunate to discuss this song at length with producer, co-writer and multi-instrumentalist Jerry Harrison at length in a recent zoom session. We talked about the development of the track in the studio, it’s meaning and the iconic music video.
