STORYLINE:
Israel's military said on Friday that eight United Nations soldiers left their post on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights and entered Israel.
Israeli soldiers met the peacekeepers near the border in coordination with the UN an Israeli spokeswoman said.
They are in good health and were sent to a UN base in Israel.
She would not elaborate further, citing military regulations.
The force, known as UNDOF, was established a year after the 1973 Mideast war.
It monitors the disengagement of Israeli and Syrian forces and maintains a cease-fire.
Syrian rebels fighting the regime of President Bashar Assad abducted 21 peacekeepers on Wednesday near the Syrian village of Jamlah, just a mile from the side of the Golan Heights controlled by Israel.
The Philippine government said it was trying to win the release of the 21peacekeepers, all Filipinos, on Friday.
Government officials initially said they expected the troops to be freed on Friday, but said rebels stuck to demands that regime forces first withdraw from the area where the hostages are being held.
Meanwhile Israeli soldiers were working on a new security fence on the border with Syria.
The new fence follows the same route of the existing fence but is considerably higher.
