People are often told not to suppress their emotions, yet when they do express themselves, they are often made to feel guilty or wrong. For instance, when someone shares thoughts of suicide, the overwhelming reaction can make them feel unsafe to express themselves again. This leads to more emotional suppression. To truly help people stop suppressing their emotions, we must create space for them to share their feelings freely. Empowerment comes from allowing emotions to be heard and validated.
