The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has made significant changes to the CA courses. Generally, the CA course consists of three levels. The first level is the Foundation Course, followed by the Intermediate Course, and finally, the Final Course. Upon successfully completing these three levels, one becomes eligible for the Chartered Accountancy certification. However, only a small number of candidates qualify for the CA qualification due to the challenging nature of the course. In order to simplify the course, ICAI has made revisions aligned with the New National Education Policy-2020 and implemented them from July 1, 2023, on the occasion of the 75th Chartered Accountants Day. We will now examine the changes in the three levels of the CA course.

CA Foundation Course
As per the revised regulations, aspiring candidates from India can enroll and pay fees based on the Council's decision. The Chartered Accountancy (Amendment) Regulations 2023 allow students who have already enrolled for the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) to switch to the revised Foundation Course. However, this option is available only for a limited period. The Foundation Course serves as the entry-level course for the CA program. After registration, the first attempt for the Foundation Course can be made only within four years.

CA Intermediate Course
Candidates who have qualified in the CA Foundation Course are eligible for the CA Intermediate Course. The newly revised Intermediate Course has recently been divided into Group 1 and Group 2. To join this course, candidates must have passed the 10+2 examinations or its equivalent. Students who have cleared the Intermediate examination conducted by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India or the Institute of Company Secretaries of India are also eligible for registration in the CA Intermediate Course.
For commerce stream students, those who have scored a minimum of 55% in graduation or post-graduation in Commerce with specific subjects like Accounting, Auditing, Mercantile Law, Corporate Law, Economics, Management (Financial Management), Taxation, Costing, Business Management, etc., or equivalent grades are eligible to directly join the Intermediate Course through the new provision of Direct Entry.
Candidates Pursuing Graduation or Post-Graduation
Candidates who are currently in the final year of graduation or post-graduation can also enroll for the Intermediate Course. However, their enrollment will be confirmed only after the declaration of results.

CA Final Course
To apply for the Final Course, candidates must have completed Practical Training and Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (ICITSS) along with qualifying the Intermediate Course Group 1 and Group 2 examinations. They must secure a minimum of 40% marks in each group and an aggregate of 55% marks in the same sitting. Upon clearing the Group 1 examination and failing in Group 2, candidates are eligible to pursue the Final Course, provided they qualify both papers subsequently.
