In this Video Lecture, Professor
In this Video Lecture, Professor Fink describes why rising from a lying to a standing position imposes a stress to the Cardiovascular System. Professor Fink then reviews the BARORECEPTOR REFLEX that compensates for the decreased Blood Pressure & Blood Flow to the Brain caused by GRAVITY. Reference is made to gravitational "hydrostatic pressure" superimposed onto Blood Pressure, Venous Return, swelling [edema] of the feet during standing, SYNCOPE (fainting), POSTURAL (ORTHOSTATIC) HYPOTENSION, and why an elevated Body Temperature (associated with cutaneous vasodilation) exacerbates this gravitation effect.
