A Desert Denizen Looks for a New Lease on Life

This is Amali, an addax. She’s a new mother. Her calf Adeline is just three weeks old and she’s very important because addax are critically endangered. Native to the Sahara Desert, these creatures once roamed over vast stretches of North Africa. But the addax has been hunted nearly into oblivion. Luckily, reintroduction efforts and captive breeding programs are helping the survival of this species.
