This unique DVD resource will be invaluable for all drama teaching. It will especially help you and your students fulfill the AQA syllabus requirements for Unit 2 (Presentation of an Extract from a Play), where Artaud can be the influencing practitioner selected and Unit 4 (Presentation of Devised Drama), where Theatre of Cruelty can be the chosen style. For the Edexcel syllabus it is equally useful for Unit 1 (Exploration of Drama and Theatre), where candidates explore a play in terms of one recognized practitioner, and Unit 3 (Exploration of Dramatic Performance) where the work of a practitioner can influence the way their devised response develops.
The DVD comprises practical approaches to working with Artaud and the Theatre of Cruelty, co-ordinated by Stephen Pritchard, whose students' work with Artaud is used as exemplars of excellence for A level Moderators. Interviews, and practical exercises from leading practitioners include Lars Oyno, Director of the Oslo-based Grusomhetens Teater (Theatre of Cruelty), Stephen Barber, Artaud's biographer and author of three books on Artaud. The DVD also contains a wealth of practical performance footage of Theatre of Cruelty from professional companies and top-band students.'
