Laid to Rest is written
Laid to Rest is written by Singaporean composer Johnson Lee. It was played at the funeral of the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, founding Prime Minister of modern Singapore.
The mood is sombre, but there is no outpouring of uncontrollable grief. Instead, it strikes me as the celebration of life, of its various highs and lows.
Notice the Beethovenian Les Adieux reference (whether coincidence or not) at the start of the beautiful hymn-like section at 2:30.
Like life going in a full circle - the thematic recall of the opening theme at the end prepares for the eventual final cadence in the home key that which begins the piece - the inevitable return...
