In this video I repair and restore a 2011 iMac Core i5 that I picked up for $60. The unit is cosmetically a little dirty and missing the internal hard drive. It is also displaying vertical green lines on the screen indicating a fault with the GPU (this was very common for this generation iMac). Unlike 2009 and 2010 models, the 2011 iMacs require a complete teardown to reach the graphics card in order to remove it and reflow the solder. I fixed this iMac at home by reflowing the solder in my oven since I do not own a hot air rework station. With new thermal paste on the CPU and GPU, as well as 1.5MM thermal pads on the GPU memory chips, the iMac is running cool and quiet. Finally, the addition of an SSD to replace the missing internal hard drive has given this iMac plenty of new life for years to come.
