Speaker Biography: John Gorzynski DVM, PhD; A scientist at Stanford University with a keen interest in genome sequencing technologies and its application in a clinical setting.  John started his career as a veterinarian treating all types of animals.  During his time in clinical practice, he was fascinated with next generation sequencing and began to think about how it could promote the health and well being of animal populations.  This led him to pursue a PhD at Stanford University where he focused on two projects: 1. Identifying genetic determinants of cardiovascular disease in non-human great apes (chimpanzees, bonobos, and gorillas), and 2. Developing an ultra rapid whole genome diagnostic test for critically ill human patients. The later of the two projects has been awarded a Guinness World Record for ’The Fasted Genome Sequencing Technology’, and has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Biotechnology, and Circulation; Genomics and Precision Medicine.  Aside from John’s research, he works as an emergency veterinarian and teaches anatomy and physiology, and anesthesiology at local community college.
