What is Integration? | AS Level Mathematics

Here we look at a very old problem: how do we find the area under a curve like x^2? This problem dates back thousands of years, but it wasn't until Newton and Leibniz in the 17th century that we had a general solution. In this video we look at "integration from first principles", but also recognise that this method of integration doesn't seem very practical, and look forward to discovering more efficient methods of integration which we will introduce in following videos.
