16.3 UV/Vis Spectroscopy | Organic Chemistry

Chad provides a brief lesson on UV-Vis Spectroscopy and the relationship between the maximum wavelength of absorption (lambda max) and the number of pi electrons in the conjugated system.  To accomplish this he compares the lambda max values for ethylene, 1,3-butadiene, and 1,3,5-hexatriene and shows how their MO diagrams explain the trend.
