I was told I need a customs broker - how does this work?
As a customs broker, we work with the buyer, the seller and the transportation company to get your shipment across the border and delivered to you or your customer.
It normally starts with a quote for duties, taxes, customs and transportation fees - which is based on the type of product, what country it is made in, what the value of it is, and where it is being picked up and delivered to.
Then, once we get a copy of the bill of sale or invoice, we apply the appropriate tariff classification, duty and tax rates, along with any other customs fees, and we email you our invoice for payment, which is normally done online by credit card or by wire transfer or check.
Once we receive payment, we use our proprietary software to transmit your shipment information to customs so that the transportation company can cross the border.
Whether your shipment is coming across the border via truck, sea, air, or rail - we coordinate your shipment with the transportation company to be sure that your shipment(s) are cleared through customs efficiently. If you do not have transportation arranged, we can arrange transportation for you - saving you a lot of work.
Once the shipment has entered the country, we then pay the duties and taxes owed on your shipment to the local customs office - which we have already collected from you.
That’s it - we handle hundreds of thousands of shipments per year and our goal is to help you and make things as easy as possible so you can concentrate on selling your products - not worrying about transportation and customs offices.
