In this Guitar tutorial I'll show you the art of Superimpositions. Superimpositions is a term for layering arpeggios. We basically play different arpeggios than the root chord. iE when a Am7 arpeggio is played over an Fmaj7 chord you'll create an Fmaj9 sound to your guitar solo.
Today you'll learn how to do arpeggio stacking over minor chords - dorian minor chords to be exact. You'll learn the superimpositions from the 3rd, the 5th and the 7th of the chord. This way you create color tones for minor chords. This technique makes everything sound more sophisticated in a heartbeat. Once you understand the underlying concept behind the layering of arpeggios, you will always use it.
By always adding thirds (that's the way chords are generally created) to your basic minor 7th chord, you create the impression of Tension chords in your guitar soloing. You saound as if you'd play m9, m11 or even m13 chords.
We'll also add some chromatics and triplets to the lines to make them sound more interesting. I'll show you exactly how all this arpeggio superimpositions work and how to tie two of them together in order to get a richer sound with many colorful upper chord tones (tensions).
