STARGATE SG-1's eighth season brought what felt like a natural conclusion to the show: Earth’s major foes were defeated, the Jaffa were finally free, and General Jack O’Neill was moving on (as series lead Richard Dean Anderson entered retirement). But Syfy Channel wanted the hit show to continue, and the writers definitely had more gas in the tank.

In this conversation with "Dial the Gate," writer and executive producer Robert C. Cooper talks about the choice that came from the surprise renewal: continue SG-1 into a ninth season and reset the board, or use the standing sets and the returning cast and crew to launch what would effectively be a new spin-off: Season 1 of STARGATE COMMAND. What advantages would that have had, and why did The Powers That Be ultimately choose to continue under the SG-1 moniker?

This is a sneak preview from Dial the Gate's upcoming conversation with Robert, streaming SUNDAY, JULY 14 starting at 12 pm PT (3 pm ET). Watch the full interview here: @dialthegate
