The Great Highland Whistle - Standard vs Big Bore - UTKilts

The fingering and the instrument itself looks the same, it has been constructed differently. The main purpose of this whistle is to allow those that are used to blowing harder while playing the pipes the ability to play the whistle easier. If blown too hard, the standard bore will squeak or change notes. It does take some getting used to when playing the standard bore. The big bore does eliminate that learning curve. However, the one downside is that the air you are blowing through the instrument can be heard much easier than the other one. That is the one thing I did not like about it, but I think it is just part of big bore design. All in all, it is a great instrument and just about any level piper would love it.
