Rhine Falls 🇨🇭 Europe's biggest waterfall

The Rheinfall is the largest waterfall in Europe. It spans 150 meters in width and 23 meters in height. At average water levels of the Rhine, the Rhine Falls sees 370 cubic meters of water per second cascading over the rocks. This volume varies significantly: during the average summer flow, it reaches around 600 m³/s, while in winter it drops to about 250 m³/s. The highest recorded flow rate was 1'250 m³/s in 1965, and the lowest was 95 m³/s in 1921.

Using excursion boats, you can approach the waterfall from as close as 50 meters. Amidst the waterfall stands an impressive rock that has withstood the forces of nature for thousands of years. This rock can be reached with the help of excursion boats. To climb the rock, a narrow and steep staircase with more than 100 steps leads upwards. From the 30-meter-high viewing platform, you can experience the impressive natural spectacle up close. During the return journey, you once again have the opportunity to capture an unforgettable backdrop that you should by no means miss.

The waterfall can be observed and photographed from various viewpoints on both sides of the Rhine. Some of these vantage points even extend beyond the river itself. On one platform, you can even position yourself above the waterfall, thus enjoying unique perspectives. In Neuhausen, near the Rhine Falls basin, you'll find the small castle of Wörth. In Laufen, right next to the Rhine Falls, is the Laufen Castle.
