For many newly arrived Hong Kongers in Britain, this will be their first Lunar New Year away from home. Carmen Lau, 26, is one of the them.
Barely two when Britain handed over its colony to China in 1997, she was a member of an idealistic youthful generation caught up in the political showdown with the Communist party in Beijing.
Last summer, when she sensed that she was about to become the subject of a government probe into electoral manipulation, Lau bought a one-way ticket to London.
Now living 9,600 kilometers from her homeland, she is still affected by a strong sense of loss as she grapples with what she sees as the end of democracy in Hong Kong.
