How to Waterproof a Shower (Hydro Ban Board) -- by Home Repair Tutor

Today we share how to waterproof a shower with Hydro Ban Board. This is one of the easiest methods for remodeling a shower. We waterproofed a tub shower combo in two hours and started setting tile the same day.

Hydro Ban Board -- 3' x 5' x 1/2"

The first step with this shower was to add 1/4" plywood to the main shower wall. This allowed the Hydro Ban Board to be slid down over the tub flange.

Apply beads of Hydro Ban Sealant to the flange then screw boards to the studs. Shower studs should be 16" on-center and screws should be no more than 12" from each other along the stud. No washers are needed for Hydro Ban Board walls.

All Hydro Ban Board seams and screws need to be sealed with the Hydro Ban Sealant.

We like this method of waterproofing showers because it's fast and the boards can be used to build custom shower niches.
