In this episode of vbuilds we are going to build an altimeter for Microsoft Flight simulator 2020, Altimeter is an instrument which helps measure the altitude, height, flight level of an airplane. In this episode we are interfacing two stepper and one servo motor with arduino mega and msfs2020 to display the output on a physical dial used as altimetr. This is done without using any 3d printing and using some basic things waste materials as much as possible The altimeter The altimeter is a pressure-operated instrument. It resembles a simple anaeroid barometer except that it is graduated in units of distance, normally metres or feet. It works by measuring air pressure, utilising the fact that the air pressure of the atmosphere decreases by approximately 1 millibar for each 10 metres in height. The pressure measured is static pressure and so is independent of the airspeed of the aeroplane. The principle of operation is that a compressible, sealed metal canister contains a fixed amount of air. When the external air pressure reduces (as the aeroplane's altitude increases), the canister expands. This movement is transmitted via a mechanical linkage to an instrument dial (see Fig. 13.4). The dial normally has two pointers with units of 103 and 102 metres (or feet) to make it easy to read quickly.
