Hello dear humans, It is me, yet again - your guide and friend - Gooboberti.

In the past we considered VR movement schemes between two polar extremes - teleportation or "Full Locomotion".

Little did we know of a little project in the works called "Lone Echo" and "Echo Arena". I've heard hints of the games many moons ago - but I saw them as a glimpse of the fantastical future -
These games seemed extraordinary - but, as I recently found out in Open Beta - the Hype is real.

The Hype is more than real - The Hype does not do Echo Arena justice.

So, we have Lone Echo and Echo Arena. Lone Echo is a single player experience where your serve as a bot mining material in the rings of saturn - Echo arena is the best E-sport created by the hands of Human Beings.

Echo Arena - You are provided a full body in this game  - hands, arms, head, chest, legs, feet.
You fly around in zero-G, pushing off of objects, walls, or other players.
You use thrusters in your wrists to control where you fly - which work in an opposite manner as Iron man. Iron man has repulsors in his palms that push outwards.

In Echo arena, the force is directed in the opposite direction as where your hand is pointing. If you point your arm forwards and initiate thrust, you will fly forwards. Because you have two hands, you are able to delicately control motion in a full 360 degree environment, in zero-g. Using hand thrusters and pushing off of objects works great to move around - but you also have a jetpack that allows for an even larger thrust - in the direction you are looking. Additionally, if you reach your hand out and bounce into something, you will be pushed backwards in space - your arm will not intersect with a wall unless you are holding yourself in position - your head will never intersect with a wall, and the game will push your body backwards - all of this means that you can freely glide around the world, bouncing off of things, propelling forward, climbing walls, then launching off - holding onto the foot of an enemy player in the air, climb up their body, and ride them for a while - then punch them in the back of the head and launch yourself off with a forceful flick and a thrust.

Of course the Frisbee disc works well - this has been worked on in many VR titles - There are no issues with the disc -just know that you better get good at throwing frisbees.
Because the field is so large, with so many obstacles, throwing the disc becomes a game of VR pong or billiards -- the disc bounces of course and flies very fast at times - you must be able to track the thing, and fly to the appropriate destination. Quite often players will all be flying towards one location, only to have the disc bounce off at an angle, causing a quick melee skirmish at the U-turn. The wise player will watch the disc and predict its movement - flying to where the disc "will be" not where it is "now".

Many players came through during the Open Beta weekend, of varied ages and genders - I heard only praise of the locomotion scheme - no one complained of motion sickness.

As you will see in this video, I played for a bit.. and got sort of good.. sort of very good.

It's just the Gooboberti way - so, if you want to see some amazing gameplay - like watching a sport, a really good sport of the future, take a gander at the glory that is -- Echo Arena (played by me, Gooboberti)
