Places to visit in Ahmedabad is incomplete without visiting ISKCON Temple in Ahmedabad, which is one of the best tourist places in Ahmedabad.

ISKCON Ahmedabad
While there are several Krishna temples in the city, ISKCON temple is a definite visit for people traveling to Ahmedabad. Situated near the Gujarat Samachar Press, the ISKCON temple is frequented by followers of Hinduism throughout the year.

Renowned as Hare Krishna Temple, ISKCON Temple of Ahmedabad was built as a step to spread the teachings of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to the maximum number of people. This glorious ISKCON Temple was built by Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in 1997.

An enduring religious landmark, the temple reflects a perfect mix of Gujarati, Rajasthani and Sompura architectural styles. This captivating temple draws hordes of believers throughout the country. Devotees can hear a constant recitation of the holy name of Hare Krishna.

There are 108 square platforms set inside the temple where devotees step upon chanting Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare.

Architecture
An enchanting temple reflects a perfect blend of Gujarat Sompura as well as Rajasthani Khamira styles of architecture. Tourists entering the temple can see the astounding images of Lord Vishnu and his different avatars on both sides of the walls.

Spread over an area of 1.3 hectares of land it houses the images of Radha and Govinda, Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman, Jagannath Baladev, Shrinathji, and Subhadraji. Witness the golden idol of Lord Narasimha and Goddess Lakshmi placed before the images of Radha and Govinda.

It has a massive hall extending up to 12000 sq feet that can accommodate around 4000 devotees. Also known as Sri Radha Govinda Dham, it is topped with majestic stone domes with beautiful carvings from Krishna’s life. There are three domes that extend up to 50 feet in diameter.

This marble-floored sacred complex has intricately carved windows built-in Khamira and Rajasthani style. The ceilings are beautifully ornamented with several images of Radha and Krishna. Ceilings and the walls of the temple are decorated with murals illustrating stories from Krishna’s life.

Facilities:
Facilities provided by the temple include a library, hostel, restaurant, and a meditation room. Devotees often like to experience the delicious pure vegetarian Prasad meal. A restaurant situated within the premises of the temple provides varied types of mouth-watering vegetarian delicacies.

About ISKCON:
A prestigious non-profit organization, ISKCON, or the International Society on Krishna Consciousness was formed with the aim to spread the Vedic teachings to the general public motivating them to live a peaceful and delightful life.

Also known as the Hare Krishna movement, the organization was founded by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in 1966 in New York. Initiated as a small community by the Gaudiya Vaishnavas it became a world-renowned huge organization within a small span of time.

Routes:
ISKCON Temple is situated on Satellite road on Sarkhej Gandhinagar Road. Ahmedabad is well connected with all the cities of the country through air, rail and road. The nearest airport is Sardar Vallabhai Patel airport which is 18 km from ISKCON temple.

Ahmedabad’s railway station called Kalupur Railway station is located at a distance of 6km from the sacred site. Buses are run by both private and government operators and can be accessed from either Gita Mandir or Paldi bus stop.

Entry Fees and Timings:
People can visit the temple anytime from 4:30 am in the morning till 1:00 pm in the afternoon or in between 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the evening. Devotees enjoy visiting the temple to witness the varied aartis performed in the temple including Mangala Aarti, Tulsi Aarti, Dhoop Aarti, Raj Bhog Arti, Pushpa Arti, and Sandhya Aarti.
