Pakistan started rounding up undocumented migrants on November 1, 2023, as the deadline set for them to leave or face expulsion approached. The order targeted individuals of all nationalities but it mostly affects Afghan refugees, who make up the largest portion of migrants in Pakistan. Anti-Afghan sentiment has been growing in the country amid prolonged economic hardship.
