This installment revisits one of the most UNSUNG bassists in Jazz history. Sam Jones not only played with the like of Cannonball Adderly, Bill Evans, Wes Montgomery, Thelonius Monk, Cedar Walton, Chet Baker, Ray Brown, Blue Mitchell, Oscar Peterson, and many, many others, but he was also a composer whose tunes we still call on the bandstand today. His career didn't really begin until his 30s and lasted only about 20 some years. Join me in rediscovering the Heavyweight Champ of walking bass, and a giant that left us too soon!
