2024 05 31 Mt Shasta Hotlum & Wintun Glacier backcountry ski

We did a glacier tour across the Hotlum glacier from North Gate trailhead and skied the Hotlum/Wintun route then crossed back at 11k towards northgate. The snow was in bad shape with 4-8 inch shingles/fins/penetentes above 11k. Kept switching sides/aspects hoping it would be better, but it was mostly the same :(

1:10 14k skiing upper wintun gully (trying to ski at least)
3:00  ~13k still skiing fins/shingles/Penetentes. It usually is a great route.
4:00 ~12.5k out of the gully and onto main Wintun.  Slightly more enjoyable (🎵: Calle 13)
6:00 ~11.5k switching over to Hotlum snowfield. not  any better :(
9:00 ~11k crossing over the (covered) crevasse fields on lower hotlum. This is a great ice climbing spot in the fall.  (🎵: white stripes)
13:00 ~10.5k crossing the  "chicago" glacier  (🎵: Kuana Torres Kahele & Napua Greig & James Ford Murphy)
14:00 ~10k skiing snowfields below the Hotlum glacier
17:00 ~8k crossing over and skiing mount above north gate trailhead
20:00 ~7.4k done skiing, walking down to North Gate (🎵:The Meadows Brothers)
